FIFA has officially rejected Iran’s request to relocate its upcoming World Cup matches from the United States to Mexico, confirming that the tournament schedule will remain unchanged.
According to FIFA, all World Cup fixtures will proceed as originally planned, based on the schedule announced on December 6, 2025. Despite rising geopolitical tensions and ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel that has impacted Iran, the governing body remains firm in its decision.
FIFA emphasized that it expects all qualified teams to participate according to the official schedule, maintaining consistency and fairness for the global tournament.
However, Iran’s participation has become increasingly uncertain following the escalation of conflict on February 28. Concerns over safety and security have raised questions about whether the Iranian national team will be able to travel to the United States.

Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran would be allowed to enter the country for their scheduled matches. At the same time, he acknowledged that the situation might not be ideal, citing potential risks to the team’s safety and well-being.
In response, representatives of the Iran national football team stressed that no authority should exclude them from the World Cup. Iran Football Federation president Mehdi Taj also addressed the issue, stating that without clear security guarantees, the team would not be willing to travel to the United States.
As a result, Iran is now seeking further negotiations with FIFA, hoping to arrange for their matches to be played in Mexico instead.
The situation continues to develop, with global attention focused on how FIFA will balance tournament logistics with the safety concerns of participating teams.
