The Netherlands have officially announced their 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Under head coach Ronald Koeman, the Dutch arrive with a mix of experienced players and exciting young talents from Europe’s top leagues.
Many of the squad members currently play in the Premier League, giving the team strong experience at the highest level of club football.
Premier League Influence in The Dutchman Squad
Ronald Koeman has selected 15 players from the Premier League for the World Cup squad. The strongest influence can be seen in defense.
Captain Virgil van Dijk will lead the backline together with Nathan Aké, Sven Botman, Jorrel Hato, Jan Paul van Hecke, Micky van de Ven, and Jurrien Timber. Among the main defenders in the squad, only Denzel Dumfries does not play in England.
The midfield also remains one of the Netherlands’ biggest strengths. Frenkie de Jong is expected to control the game alongside Ryan Gravenberch, Teun Koopmeiners, and Tijjani Reijnders, who impressed throughout the season.
In attack, Memphis Depay is likely to lead the front line with support from Cody Gakpo and Donyell Malen. Their pace and movement could become an important weapon for the Dutch side.
Meanwhile, Wout Weghorst has been included as another attacking option.
Controversial Squad Decisions
Despite the quality of the squad, several of Koeman’s decisions have created debate among fans and football experts.
The biggest surprise was the absence of Jeremie Frimpong. The Liverpool full-back performed consistently this season and many supporters believed he deserved a place in the squad.
The Netherlands will also be without Matthijs de Ligt and Xavi Simons, who are both recovering from injuries. Their absence slightly reduces the team’s depth in defense and midfield creativity.
Another talking point is the inclusion of Wout Weghorst. The 33-year-old striker scored only eight goals in the Eredivisie this season.
At the same time, Zian Flemming scored 11 goals in the Premier League for Burnley, leading many fans to believe he should have been selected instead.
However, Koeman believes Weghorst still offers something important to the team. His physical presence and ability as a target man could become useful in difficult matches, especially as a substitute.

Mission to Win a First World Cup Title
The Netherlands once again enter the World Cup with the dream of winning their first title.
Often called football’s “Uncrowned Kings,” the Dutch have finished as runners-up three times in World Cup history — in 1974, 1978, and 2010.
Even with several key players missing through injury, the Netherlands still have enough quality to compete with the strongest teams in the tournament.
With experienced leaders such as Virgil van Dijk and Memphis Depay, combined with young talents like Jorrel Hato and Ryan Gravenberch, Dutch fans have good reason to believe this team can make a deep run at the 2026 World Cup.
The Flying Dutchmen now hope this generation can finally bring home the first World Cup trophy in the nation’s history.
