W88-Malaysia-FIFA-World-Cup-2026-Squad-Deadlines-Key-Dates-Every-Fan-Should-Know

The road to the FIFA World Cup 2026 is officially taking shape as FIFA prepares for the biggest tournament in football history. With 48 national teams set to compete and up to 1,248 players potentially involved, the tournament will feature the largest player pool ever seen at a World Cup.

Here are the important squad deadlines and regulations ahead of the tournament.

11 May – Provisional Squad Deadline

National teams must submit a preliminary squad list containing between 35 and 55 players. Each team is required to include at least four goalkeepers in this provisional selection.

This list acts as the official player pool for the tournament, although FIFA will not publicly release the provisional squads. Teams are also allowed to register up to 75 officials during this stage.

25 May – Clubs Must Release Players

Football clubs worldwide are required to release players for international duty, marking the beginning of official World Cup preparations.

However, several exceptions apply due to major club finals taking place at the end of May, including:

  • UEFA Conference League Final – 28 May 2026
  • UEFA Champions League Final – 30 May 2026
  • CONCACAF Champions Cup Final – 30 May 2026

Players involved in those matches may join their national teams later than usual.

1 June – Final Squad Submission

Teams must submit their final squads by 1 June. Each nation can register between 23 and 26 players, including at least three goalkeepers.

FIFA will still allow changes in cases of serious injury or illness up to 24 hours before a team’s opening match. Any replacement player must come from the previously submitted provisional squad list.

2 June – FIFA Official Squad Announcement

FIFA will officially publish the final 26-player squads for all 48 participating nations on 2 June.

Even if countries announce their squads earlier, they will only become official after FIFA approval. Goalkeepers may also be replaced at any time before the tournament if a serious injury occurs.

Team Arrival Deadline Before Opening Match

All national teams must arrive in their designated host country no later than five days before their first group-stage match.

This rule ensures every team has enough time for training, media activities, and tournament preparations before the competition begins.
