The Iraq Football Association has formally asked FIFA to postpone its upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 play-off match due to safety concerns linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The request comes after travel complications and potential security risks were raised regarding the team’s journey to the match venue.
Travel Plan Raises Safety Concerns
According to reports, FIFA previously suggested that the Iraq national team travel by land for approximately 25 hours to Istanbul, Turkey, before boarding a flight to Mexico, where the play-off match is scheduled to take place.
